As a Senior Communications Officer, Gabriela is in charge of the development and implementation of Crisis Group’s media strategy with special focus on the German-, Spanish- and Portuguese language media. Gabriela conceptualised, created and supervises the podcast production at ICG in five languages. These podcasts provide website visitors, as well as media outlets and policy-makers with an accessible product based on real-time analysis. They are being published by media outlets around the world, including The Washington Post, CNN, Foreign Policy in Spanish, Semana, El Tiempo and AllAfrica.
Gabriela presents Crisis Group positions to policy makers in Brussels and to print and broadcast media internationally. She also gives presentations to military personnel, diplomats, students, at EU Institutions and at meetings with other NGOs. She authors and edits op-eds, articles and press releases on various international conflict and human rights issues in English, Spanish, Portuguese and German.
Professional background:
Gabriela Keseberg Dávalos is a journalist and political scientist. Before joining Crisis Group she worked as a journalist for ZDF German public television in the department of foreign policy and new media in Mainz and Munich, Germany. Her responsibilities included authoring background information articles about politics and society worldwide for the major news website heute.de.
At the ZDF editorial department of foreign policy, she was in charge of content for the"Auslandsjournal" website. "Auslandsjournal" is a renowned weekly TV-program that reports in detail about current issues from all over the world.
Before joining ZDF, she worked in the area of broadcast monitoring for the Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (BLM) in Munich. Her final reports for the Bavarian Media Board served as crucial information resource for their decision making regarding the renewal of radio frequency licenses.
Granted a journalism scholarship by the Foundation UNIR Bolivia in 2008, she produced and directed a 20-minute documentary about the children of Bolivian emigrants and the human cost of emigration.
She holds an MA in Political Sciences, American History and Culture and New German Literature from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich-Germany and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. She also holds a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the Bayerische Akademie für Fernsehen in Munich.
During her studies she worked as an intern at the ZDF Foreign Correspondent Bureaus in Washington DC and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gabriela is a native speaker of Spanish and German, and is fluent in English and Portuguese. She has worked and lived in Bolivia, Brazil, Germany, Denmark and USA.
