Mark Eyskens, Minister of state of Belgium, occupied important ministerial functions(1976-92) i.a. as prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and finance of Belgium. He is doctor in law and economics, bac. philisophy (KUL) and M.A. economics (Columbia university, New York). He is professor em. economics at the Catholic university of Leuven and former member of the Belgian Parliament (1977-2003), of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the WEU (1993-2003). He is past president of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for sciences and arts and president of the Francqui Foundation and other scientific and cultural institutions. He is member of the board of the International Crisis Group, President of Public Affairs Europe and of the board of several Belgian and foreign companies. He is the author of fourty four books and numerous articles and a sunday afternoon painter and classical music lover.
