MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA PROGRAM

Crisis Group analyses the long and short-term factors that feed violent conflict, identifying ways of increasing the capacity and will of governments to cooperate on issues of internal and international security.  The policy analysts are based in field offices, while the Program Director is located in Crisis Group’s Washington, D.C., advocacy office.

Arab-Israeli Conflict

Crisis Group reports and briefings on the Arab-Israeli conflict draw on analyses of the obstacles to a durable settlement and the past failures of the peace process in order to put forward new and comprehensive strategies that can bring about a sustainable peace for Israel and the Palestinians as well as neighbouring Syria and Lebanon.

North Africa

Crisis Group’s reporting on North Africa centres on the challenges faced by key states in the region, notably Egypt and Algeria. These include the need for reform of political systems and the ways in which opposition forces, particularly Islamist groups, can be integrated into the political process.

Iraq/Iran/Gulf

Crisis Group analyses the underlying causes of tensions and conflicts in the Gulf region and suggests ways of alleviating them, while exploring appropriate means to promote good governance, sustainable economic growth, and regional stability and security.
