Following the Afghan government’s release of 300 Taliban prisoners, a Taliban spokesperson announced that “20 prisoners of the Kabul administration will be released”. The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation “welcome[d] the release of prisoners by both the Afghan government and the Taliban”, adding: “Both sides should accelerate efforts to meet targets specified in the U.S.-Taliban agreement as soon as possible”.
