Commenting on discussions between the U.S. and the Taliban, Afghan National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib opined that the U.S. representative "is not getting a deal that will result in peace in Afghanistan", going to suggest that "the perception in Afghanistan [is that] perhaps all of this talk is to create a caretaker government, of which he [i.e the U.S. representative] will then become the viceroy". "We're only saying this because this is the perception", Mohib added. A U.S. diplomat described the remarks as "inaccurate and unhelpful".
