Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with his Saudi counterpart, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Austin “condemned the recent Huthi cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed his commitment to assisting Saudi Arabia in the defence of its borders”. He also “discussed the importance of ending the war and thanked the Crown Prince for Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a political settlement”. Austin went on to highlight “Saudi Arabia’s role as a pillar of the regional security architecture”, as well as the “U.S. and Saudi shared commitment to countering Iran’s destabilising activities and defeating violent extremist organisations in the region”.
