Israel conducted airstrikes against a Syrian military facility where the IDF claimed "systems to manufacture accurate and lethal weapons were about to be transferred on behalf of Iran to Hizbollah in Lebanon". Syria shot down a Russian aircraft during the incident, killing fifteen. In a subsequent statement, Russia's defence ministry claimed that "the Israeli pilots used the Russian plane as cover and set it up to be targeted by the Syrian air defence forces", while the IDF pointed the finger at "the Assad regime... Iran and the Hizbollah terror organisation" for what it characterised as an "unfortunate incident".
