As a Japanese destroyer set sail for patrols in the Gulf of Oman and Bab al-Mandab, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe underscored that Japanese forces would “not come under [U.S.] command in military operations”, while sharing information on a daily basis. Iran’s embassy reiterated Tehran’s view that the “presence of foreign forces in the region will not contribute to security and stability”.
