President Rouhani told Iraqi Prime Minister al-Kadhimi that “the Americans have always had a destructive role in the region and their presence in Iraq will not contribute to the country’s security and stability in any way”. According to an Iranian readout, Rouhani further commended “Baghdad’s positive role in intervening to resolve disputes among regional states”.
