The U.S. Intelligence Community’s 2021 Annual Threat Assessment maintained that “Tehran remains a threat to Israel, both directly through its missile forces and indirectly through its support of Hizbollah and other terrorist groups”. The assessment also forecast “Hizbollah, in coordination with Iran and other Iran-aligned Shiite militants, to continue developing terrorist capabilities as a deterrent, as retaliatory options and as instruments of coercion against its adversaries”, adding: “Hizbollah’s focus on reducing U.S. influence in Lebanon and the Middle East has intensified following the [2020] killing of IRGC-QF Commander Qassem Soleimani”. “Hizbollah maintains the capability to target, both directly and indirectly, U.S. interests inside Lebanon, in the region, overseas, and—to a lesser extent—in the U.S.”, the report noted.
