At a White House event marking an agreement between the U.S., Israel and the UAE on “full normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE”, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, maintained that “peace between the Arabs and the Israelis is Iran’s worst nightmare. And no one has done more to intensify the conflict between Arabs and Israelis than Iran”. He further argued that “We see the future is very much in the Gulf and with Israel, and the past is with the Iranian regime. It clings to power on the basis of brute force… It is facing a crisis of legitimacy and credibility with its own people. And the President’s maximum pressure campaign has achieved historic results”. Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the agreement as “strategic stupidity” and stated: “Iran considers Abu Dhabi’s shameful move… as a dangerous measure, warns against any interference by the Zionist regime in the Persian Gulf region’s equations and declares that the Emirati government and the other governments siding with it must accept responsibility for all the consequences of this move”.
