Israel’s UN ambassador described the Security Council vote rejecting a U.S. resolution on extending arms restrictions against Iran as “a disgrace. Instead of allowing the terrorist regime in Tehran to acquire deadly weapons, the council should impose crippling sanctions on Iran”. The following day, Prime Minister Netanyahu referred to the result as “outrageous” and signaled that “we will continue to act in close cooperation with the U.S. and countries in the region to block Iranian aggression”. Defence Minister Benny Gantz indicated that “in its unceasing attempts to achieve nuclear weapons, and its efforts to fuel terror and violence, Iran is undermining the peace of the region and the world”, calling the vote “a mistaken decision”.
