Amidst reports of Turkish authorities having foiled Iranian plots against Israeli citizens visiting Turkey, and following a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid asserted: “Iran is behind these attempted terrorist attacks… We’re not only talking about the murder of innocent Israeli tourists, but also a clear violation of Turkish sovereignty by Iranian terror”. “We are confident that Turkey knows how to respond to the Iranians on this matter”, Lapid added. “For its part, Israel won’t sit idly-by when there are attempts to harm its citizens in Israel and around the world”. The following day, Iran’s diplomatic spokesperson rejected the claims as a “ridiculous fabricated scenario… The theatrics of this terrorist regime are not believed by anyone, and even if some parties seem to have a show of support based on fleeting expediency, in reality they know what a dangerous regime they are facing”.
