Media reports citing Israeli sources indicated that “the Mossad intelligence agency recently thwarted an Iranian assassination attempt on an employee of the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul”, adding that “a senior U.S. general in Germany and a journalist in France” were also on the target list. On 2 May, Israel’s prime minister office asserted that the plans “were ordered, approved and funded by the senior leadership of the Iranian regime and were intended to be executed by the IRGC”.
