Prime Minister Yair Lapid stated that Israel had “carried out a precise counter-terror operation against an immediate threat” after the IDF killed a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander, a group he described as “an Iranian proxy that wants to destroy the State of Israel and kill innocent Israelis”. “The head of Islamic Jihad is in Tehran as we speak”, he noted. Iran’s diplomatic spokesperson condemned the attack as “criminal, adventurous and provocative”.
