The USS Thunderbolt fired at an approaching Iranian ship. U.S. officials stated that “the IRGC navy boat was coming in at a high rate of speed. It did not respond to any signals, they did not respond to any bridge-to-bridge calls, [the Thunderbolt] felt there was no choice except to fire the warning shots”. The IRGC said that the U.S. fired “with the aim of provocation and intimidation”.
