CENTCOM confirmed that “three U.S. service members were killed, and multiple personnel were injured from a one-way attack UAS that impacted on a base in north east Jordan, near the Syrian border”. President Biden stated that “while we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq… We will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing”. The following day, Iran’s diplomatic spokesperson maintained that “Iran is not involved in the resistance groups’ decisions about how to support the Palestinian people or defend themselves and the people of their countries in the face of any aggression and occupation”.
