The U.S. Special Representative for Iran and Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, indicated that “we’re aware of reports of additional tankers heading to Venezuela from Iran, and that’s another reminder of how Maduro has destroyed Venezuela’s economy and infrastructure through incompetence and mismanagement and corruption and created the need to import gasoline into this oil-rich country”. Abrams further highlighted that “we’re watching what Iran is doing and making sure, in the first instance, that other shippers, insurers, ship owners, ship captains realise they must stay away from that trad”.
