The State Department issued a statement saying that it was "appalled by the Iranian regime's secret execution of two seventeen-year-old males", going on to "condemn[] Iran's practice of executing and even torturing minors, giving it the appalling distinction as the worlds' leading executioner of children". Describing these actions as "unacceptable", the statement went on to pledge that the U.S. would "continue to shine the light on the regime and ask other to join us in holding Iran's corrupt leaders accountable for their crimes".
