During an interview in Cairo, Secretary Pompeo remarked that "we view the malign activity from the Islamic Republic of Iran, this revolutionary force in Iran, as creating enormous instability here in the region, and so part of that is making sure that Iran doesn't destabilise or continue to destabilise Syria... we will use the full power of the U.S. to achieve that outcome". Pompeo went on say that "the support of Lebanese Hizbollah, the support of some of the Shiite militias in Iraq, the funding that goes... to the Huthis in Yemen, these are things that the Iranians are doing to destabilise the Middle East at enormous cost to the people of Iran".
