President Biden asserted that “the only thing more dangerous than the Iran that exists now is an Iran with nuclear weapons”, adding the U.S. would not remove the IRGC from its Foreign Terrorist Organisation list as part of JCPOA negotiations. In response to whether Washington would consider military option to stop Iran’s nuclear program, Biden said, “as a last resort, yes”. The same day, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan underscored that “there is a deal on the table; it involves a mutual compliance-for-compliance return to the JCPOA. The President believes Iran should take it. At the same time, we are not holding back in terms of enforcing the sanctions… Diplomacy is the best way to reach what is a shared [Israel/U.S.] goal of ensuring that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon”. Reacting to Biden’s statement, an IRGC spokesperson warned the U.S. and Israel of “the price for using the word ‘force’ against Iran”.
