At a press conference with his Russian counterpart, President Trump underscored "the importance of placing pressure on Iran to halt its nuclear ambitions and to stop its campaign of violence... throughout the Middle East". He went on to say that cooperation between Russia and the U.S. "has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives" in Syria, and asserted that "the U.S. will not allow Iran to benefit from our successful campaign against ISIS".
