U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan remarked that “things are proceeding according to the understanding that we reached with Iran [regarding five Iranian-American detainees]. I don’t have an exact timetable… because there’s steps that need to yet unfold”. He further emphasised that “we’re not sending $6 billion to Iran. We are transferring funds from one restricted account outside of Iran to another restricted account outside of Iran to operate under supervision to ensure that those funds are spent on non-sanctionable transactions”.
