The U.S. inked a deal with Oman "governing U.S. access to facilities and ports in Salalah and Duqm". A U.S. official explained that "we used to operate on the assumption that we could just steam into the Gulf... [but] the quality and quantity of Iranian weapons raise concerns". The official further noted that "the port [of Duqm] itself is very attractive and the geostrategic location is very attractive... being outside the Strait of Hormuz".
