On a visit to the UAE, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, argued that if a UN arms embargo on Iran was lifted, “you can be certain that what Iran has been doing in the dark, it will do in broad daylight and then some”. He further contended that Iran was practicing “a mafia tactic where people are intimidated into accepting a certain kind of behavior for fear of something far worse”. Hook also suggested that “no one in the world thinks that what this region needs is more Iranian weapons… it is very important that the region speaks with one voice to call on the UN Security Council to extend the embargo”.
