A U.S. diplomatic spokesperson stated that “the Biden administration plans to support the ongoing peace process between the Islamic Republic and the Taliban, aimed at achieving a just and durable political settlement and a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire”. “When it comes to the U.S.-Taliban agreement”, he added, “we are reviewing what has been… negotiated”, while noting “at this time, no decisions about our force posture have been made. We are committed… to supporting the diplomatic process, and we’re committed to ensuring that Afghanistan never again provides a base for terrorist attacks against the U.S., our partners or our interests”.
