Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated that the U.S. had “extended offers to help the Islamic Republic of Iran [with COVID-19], and we hope that the Government of Iran will heed our offers of humanitarian assistance and medical supplies”. Relatedly, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, argued that “the [Iranian] regime did delay telling its own people about the outbreak of the coronavirus and as the consequence people didn’t take the necessary percussions and today Iran has the highest death rate in the world of the coronavirus”. Hook also remarked that “we have made an offer of assistance, and the regime rejected it, which is a mistake... The longest suffering victims of the Iranian regime is its own people and the coronavirus is just an example of it”.
