The U.S. envoy to the IAEA told the Board of Governors that “Iran’s continued production of uranium enriched up to 60 per cent has no credible peaceful purpose.… Iran should cease its nuclear provocations and its continued pursuit of steps that pose grave proliferation risks”. She further listed a number of safeguards concerns, and asserted: “Should Iran follow through on its reported decision to take up certain transparency measures as conveyed to the Director General, it would be an encouraging sign, but we of course need to see if these steps are, in fact, implemented”. The following day, the envoy told the Board that “the list of outstanding questions related to Iran’s implementation of its legal obligations under its NPT safeguards agreement continues to grow”, emphasising: “Iran must act to fulfill its legal obligations and take the specific actions identified by the board without delay”.
