Crisis Group Congratulates Incoming Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman

The International Crisis Group is delighted to congratulate Trustee Wendy Sherman on her appointment by U.S. President-elect Biden to the position of deputy secretary of state.

President & CEO of Crisis Group Rob Malley said: “I have worked alongside Wendy for years, most recently when she led the U.S. efforts to reach the Iran nuclear deal, and during her time as trustee. No one better embodies the vision of strong, principled diplomacy and multilateralism. She is also a dear friend and has been an invaluable supporter of the organisation’s mission. Crisis Group will miss her, but I have no doubt that she’ll be equally invaluable as the new U.S. administration tackles many enormous challenges”.

Co-chairman of the Board Lord Mark Malloch Brown said: “It was an honour having Wendy as a trustee on the Crisis Group Board, she was an active leader in so many of our discussions. I am pleased to congratulate her on her new role, in which I am certain that she will continue to contribute meaningfully to strengthening U.S. foreign policy”.

Frank Giustra, co-chairman of the Board, said: “I would like to congratulate Wendy for her appointment. I am thrilled to hear that she will be an influential voice in the new U.S. administration”.

In line with Crisis Group's policy, Ms. Sherman will be stepping down from the Board. Crisis Group looks forward to continuing to collaborate with her and the incoming U.S. administration to further our mission of preventing, mitigating and resolving deadly conflicts around the world.
