Strait of Hormuz 0
14 June 2019

Referring to the tanker incident in the Gulf of Oman the previous day, President Trump indicated that "Iran did do it". He went on to remark that "we are being very tough. Yes, we're being very tough on sanctions... they're a nation of terror. And they've changed a lot since I've been president, I can tell you. They were unstoppable and now they are in deep, deep trouble". Asked about the possibility that Iran might attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, Trump replied: "they're not going to be closing it... if it closes, it's not going to be closed for long. And they know it. And they've been told in very strong terms. And we want to get them back to the table if they want to go back. I'm ready when they are. But whenever they're ready, it's ok". He went on to argue that "they're pulling back from everywhere. They're pulling back out of Syria. They're pulling back out of Yemen. They're pulling back - if you take a look at what's actually happening". "I'm not looking to hurt that country", Trump said. "But they can't have a nuclear weapon".
