U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz. According to a U.S. readout, the two “shared their concerns about the threat posed by Iran’s aggressive behaviour in the Middle East and expressed their determination to counter these threats”. The same day, asked about the potentially negative impact of an agreement with Iran on U.S.-Israel relations, a White House spokesperson maintained: “The responsibility of President Biden is to act in the interests of the U.S. And our view is that putting in place a diplomatic agreement — an agreement where we can prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, where we have returned to the visibility we had before the former President pulled out of that deal — is in our interest”. “We will continue to work and brief the leaders in Israel… but our position hasn’t changed”, she added.
