A spokesperson for Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) reported that “coalition forces, conducting a patrol near Qamishili, Syria, encountered a checkpoint occupied by pro-Syrian regime forces. After coalition troops issued a series of warnings and de-escalation attempts, the patrol came under small arms fire from unknown individuals. In self-defence, coalition troops returned fire”. “The situation was de-escalated and is under investigation”, the spokesperson indicated, adding that “one U.S. soldier had a minor superficial scratch” during the exchange. According to Syrian state media, one civilian was killed and another injured during the clash.
