As Crisis Group’s Senior Communications Officer for Africa, Abel coordinates the dissemination of the organisation’s work across media and influential constituencies in sub-Saharan Africa. He implements communications plans for the Africa Program, working closely with dedicated experts and the wider global communications team.

Professional Background

Abel is a communications and advocacy professional with over two decades of experience from the UN Economic Commission for Africa, overseeing communications for the Central African sub-region; the African Capacity Building Foundation, leading communications across 40 countries; the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, serving as Official Spokesman of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Cameroon; the Cameroon Radio Television, working as Culture and News Editor; and the South African Broadcasting Corporation, where he served for a while as West/Central Africa correspondent. 

Abel holds an MA in Media Studies from Rhodes University and is a candidate for an MSc in International Development from Northumbria University.
