As Crisis Group’s Director of Strategic Communications, Geneviève is responsible for promoting the organisation’s brand and reputation, as well as enhancing its visibility and raising awareness of its mission, methodology and impact by developing and implementing a proactive, forward-looking communications strategy. She also oversees the development, editorial direction, design and production of high-quality, web, digital and print outputs that support the communications strategy.

Professional Background

Before joining Crisis Group in January 2023, Geneviève served as Director of Communications at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico, where she provided strategic leadership and led global media campaigns on food and nutrition security, gender, poverty alleviation and climate change, focusing on the impact of research. From 2008 to 2012, Geneviève lived in Ethiopia, where she consulted for a Dutch refugee agency and lectured at the University of Addis Ababa. Prior to that, she worked as a communications specialist and coordinated workshops for various International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR), Hohenheim University and NGOs in Niger, West Africa.

Geneviève holds an MA in Romance Philology from the Université Catholique de Louvain, and an MA in Communications from Utah State University.
