As Senior Analyst for Syria, Nanar researches conflict dynamics, politics, governance and non-state actors in the country.

Professional Background

Nanar holds a PhD in Political Science from Université Libre de Bruxelles. As a Senior Analyst at the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), he has an extensive background in analysing armed conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa. In his research, he has conducted in-depth fieldwork on issues such as governance, pro-government militias, civil resistance against Jihadist groups and violent extremism. He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the UNDP.
