Charles is a former journalist who has covered several African countries in recent years. He lived in Côte d’Ivoire for almost three years and worked for French news agencies, focusing on the cocoa sector. He then spent two years as an AFP correspondent in the Central African Republic, where he covered the arrival of the Wagner Group in the country. Charles then worked for international NGOs focusing on security and judicial issues. He formally joined Crisis Group in January 2024.
