A U.S. diplomatic spokesperson remarked that “Afghanistan’s neighbours, other countries in the region have a role to play [in the Afghanistan peace process]. They certainly have an interest in a peaceful, in a stable Afghanistan, and that is precisely what we are… seeking to bring about”. He further highlighted that “any proposal that the U.S. would endorse, that we would get behind, has one requirement: that it be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned at its core. We believe that is an essential component to a just and durable peace”.
