Following the 29 February deal between Taliban and the U.S., President Trump confirmed that he “spoke to the leader of the Taliban… We had a good conversation. We’ve agreed there’s no violence. We don’t want violence. We’ll see what happens” Trump added. Two days Later, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo remarked that “in no uncertain terms: violence must be reduced immediately for the peace process to move forward. Indeed, President Trump discussed this very issue directly with Taliban deputy leader Mullah Baradar”. Pompeo also urged “all sides to stop posturing, start a practical discussion about prisoner releases, knuckle down and prepare for the upcoming intra-Afghan negotiations”.
