A U.S. navy spokesperson reported that Iran’s IRGC had detained a merchant vessel, potentially involved in smuggling activity, in international waters. “U.S. naval forces deployed maritime assets to closely monitor the situation. Ultimately, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command assessed the circumstances of this event did not warrant further response”, he added. The following day, Iranian media reported that the IRGC Navy had seized what was described as a vessel carrying smuggled fuel, and detained the twelve crew members.
