The commander of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group, whose deployment had been part of the bolstered U.S. military presence following "escalatory indications" purportedly emanating from Iran in early May, stated that "since we've been operating in the region, we've had several interactions with Iranians. To this point all have been safe and professional". In related remarks, CENTCOM's commander contented that, in light of the deployments, the Iranians were "recalculating. They have to take this into account as they think about various actions that they might take. So we think this is having a very good stabilising effect". He added that "I think things are pretty quiet right now".
