The following day, President Trump congratulated al-Kadhimi by telephone and “expressed the support of the U.S. for Iraq during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and emphasised the shared interest with Iraq in achieving the enduring defeat of ISIS”. According to an Iraqi readout, Trump also expressed readiness to “provide the necessary economic assistance to support the Iraqi economy”.
