Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi hailed “the U.S. for its dedicated action, led by President Trump and Secretary Pompeo, at the UN Security Council, in preventing the lifting of Iran’s arms embargo”, and further urged “all countries to stand alongside the U.S. and to refrain from sale of weapons to Iran and to enforce the sanctions in their entirety”. The following day Israel’s UN envoy wrote the Secretary-General to posit that “all sanctions imposed on the [Iranian] regime are to be reinstated, and the UN Secretary-General must take the required action as set forth in the relevant Security Council resolutions… Iran constitutes the greatest threat to the Middle East today, if not to the entire world”.
