Commenting on Iran's 1 October missile and drone strikes near al-Bukamal, a U.S. defence official argued that "such strikes potentially jeopardise the forces who are actively fighting ISIS in Syria". The official went on to note that while "professional militaries... de-conflict their operations to ensure maximum safety; Iran took no such measures", adding that "any Iranian activity in this area is reckless, unsafe and escalatory".
