The secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, announced the formation of an "Iran Action Group", headed by a Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook. According to Pompeo, "the Iran Action Group will be responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the State Department's Iran-related activity". Hook added that U.S. "strategy addresses all manifestations of the Iranian threat and the new Iran Action Group will be focussed on implementing that strategy".
