The U.S. sanctioned “six Iranian individuals and one Iranian entity… for attempting to influence the 2020 U.S. presidential election”. In parallel, the Department of Justice indicted two of the designees, and the State Department offered “a reward of up to $10 million for information on or about the[ir] activities”. Iran’s diplomatic spokesperson characterised the claims as “unfounded” and the designation as the “continuation of the failed policy launched by the previous U.S. President Donald Trump”.
