Vice President Kamala Harris announced that the U.S. would “work with our partners to remove Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women”, adding: “We will continue to hold accountable the Iranian officials and entities responsibly for the violence against protesters”. The same day, the U.S. co-hosted an Arria-formula discussion on the protests at the United Nations. Iran’s UN envoy argued that the aim of the meeting was “clearly to interfere in the domestic affairs of a sovereign state”, while raising concerns over what he called “the politicisation of human rights issues and manipulation of the UN system by certain States to advance their short-sighted political objectives”.
