Secretary Pompeo underscored his assessment that "the threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran is very real". Referencing Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, Pompeo posited that "those are places where Iran is truly the malign actor, and it's why we're so happy that the coalition that we've built out... is so central to creating the stability that the people of the Middle East so richly deserve".
