Secretary Pompeo indicated that he was "disturbed and, indeed, deeply disappointed to hear the remaining parties in the [nuclear] deal announce they're setting up a special payment system to bypass U.S. sanctions. This is one of the most counterproductive measures imaginable for regional and global peace and security". Arguing that "Iran's own track record of violating international law is among the worst in the world", Pompeo called "on every country to join our efforts to change the regime's lawless behaviour". Addressing the Iranian people, Pompeo added that "the U.S. hears you; the U.S. supports you. The U.S. is with you".
