At a press conference with his German counterpart, Secretary Pompeo applauded “Germany’s decision to ban Mahan Air from landing in the country”. “It has been a courier for the Iranian regime and its cargo – fighters and weapons – are bound for Middle East battlefields that puts… the world at risk”, he added. Pompeo went on to urge Germany to use its position at the UN Security Council and take action against “Iran’s ongoing ballistic missile activities”. He additionally posited that “Iran has also utterly failed to meet its commitments under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) action plan”, calling on Iran to ratify the two remaining treaties under the mentioned plan “without delay and … reservation”. Pompeo also addressed the special purpose vehicle set up for trade between Europe and Iran, stating that “it is aimed at facilitating the movement of goods that are authorised to move, it’s unproblematic”.
