The U.S. military "deployed a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense [THAAD] system to Israel... as a demonstration of the U.S.' continued commitment to Israel's regional security". Prime Minister Netanyahu described the move as "additional testimony to the commitment of the U.S. to the security of Israel", and assessed that in combination "with our defensive systems we are even stronger in order to deal with near and distant threats from throughout the Middle East".
